Scholarship Competition 

 

In honor of Kuan-Yao Lam Nie and James K. Nie, Turtle Creek Chamber Orchestra offers funds, mentorship, and a chance to play with TCCO during their summer concert season. Any student of string or piano who is from 8 to 18 years of age may enter. Scholarships are awarded in three categories: Beginners - $150 Winner/$75 Honorable Mention, Intermediate - $300 Winner/$150 Honorable Mention, and Advanced - $550 Winner/$275 Honorable Mention.​

Open to all String and Piano students and/or students of TCCO members.  Winners will present their pieces in performance on the Winners' Concert February 9, 2020 in Beloit.

 

Registration forms must be postmarked by Monday, January 13, 2020

1st Plave Advance Isabella Wu, piano
Isabella Wu, age 18, is a senior at James Madison Memorial High School. She began piano at the age of 5 with Shu-Ching Chuang and is currently studying with Dr. Karen Boe. Isabella has won many awards and honors, including winner of the 2010 and 2012 Madison Symphony Orchestra Fall Youth Concerto Competitions, the 2014 Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra Youth Artist Competition, the 2014 Chippewa Valley Symphony Kristo Orthodontics Young Artist Competition, and Honorable Mention of the 2013 Midwest You

My name is Isabelle Krier. I am a sophmore in Highschool and just recently turned 16 years old. I have been playing the violin for 10 years and have been studying with Eugene Purdue for the past 7 years. Along with the violin, I play varsity tennis and participate in music at school. I have been in WYSO for the past 6 years and WYSO’s chamber music program for the past 6 years as well. I won the WYSO’s Philharmonia Concerto Competition (2014), received the Highly Commendable Award from the Wisco

I am 13 and in 7th grade. I home school along with my six siblings. Besides playing piano, violin and ukulele, I also love playing sports--especially volleyball, track, and cross country.
1st Place Elementary Max Wang, Piano
Max Wang is 10 years old and a 5th grader at Willowbrook Middle School in South Beloit, Illinois. He has been studying piano with Mr. David Newman since he was 6 years old. His hobbies include basketball, tennis, traveling and art lessons. He enjoys listening to and learning contemporary and classical piano pieces. He is also a percussion player in the band at his school. In 2016, he won his 1st gold cup from the MacDowell Music Club. His favorite subject is science and hopes to pursue a career
2nd Place Element Anika Gehrke Piano
Anika Gehrke is a third grader at Christian Life Schools in Rockford, IL. She has been studying piano through the Rockford Music Academy with Mrs. Anne Olson for six years. The Rockford Music Academy has also provided her with multiple opportunities to take enrichment classes and play at multiple recitals throughout each year. Anika also attends the Kankakee Piano Camp each summer. Anika loves figure skating and fostering animals in her spare time and plans on being a veterinarian when she grows
